Whether it be modern technology such as fingerprint or iris identification, or electronic cards and traditional keys, the fundamental relationship between “locks” and “keys” has been an essential part of our daily necessities for the past long years. Although traditional locks and keys may be forgotten, they are ingenious device with ancient talent and character in design, manufacture and applications. They specifically reflect the wisdom gained through living, and their shapes and forms could only multiply throughout thousands of years’ worth of technological and artistic development.
The exhibition celebrates the magnificent locks and keys collected and donated by Professor Hong-Sen Yan of the Mechanical Engineering department, NCKU. From the historical development, types, shapes, material, engraving, and the principle of opening mechanisms, this exhibition presents to our visitors the beauty of Ancient Chinese Padlocks.
